Musicalfest 2016

September 24, 2016

I decided to make a short blogpost for all the people who could not be at the Raimundtheater in Vienna today, and also for those who want to look at some pictures of today’s “MUSICALFEST”. 😉

Like in previous years there has been a built a big stage on the street right next to the Raimundtheater and the show programme was shown three times. This year’s singers were Ana Milva Gomes, Marjan Shaki, Drew Sarich and Oedo Kuipers.

The Songs:
“Einladung zum Ball” (Tanz der Vampire) – Drew Sarich,  “Wenn ich tanzen will” (Elisabeth) – Ana and Oedo, “Gold von den Sternen” (Mozart) – Ana, “Wie wird man seinen Schatten los” (Mozart) – Oedo, “High flying adored” (Evita) – Marjan and Drew, “Don’t cry for me, Argentinia” (Evita) – Marjan.

Of course there was also a lot to see inside the theatre – three songs of the new musical “Schikaneder” have been performed by the original cast – Premiere will be next Friday, Sept. 30th at the Raimundtheater. Tickets are available here. As I’m going to watch the full show next week, I decided I’d better wait until then. 😉

If you want to look at more photos or have some prints, please go to my website => shop – there you can find more. And here’s also the usual slide show of some of the available photos!

“EVITA” – Press conference

December 7, 2015

“EVITA” – Press conference

The next big musical at the Ronacher will be Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “EVITA” (Premiere: March 9th, 2016), so I went to the theatre last Wednesday for taking some photos at the press conference. The names of the three main characters have been published before already, so no big surprise (but still a pleasure!) that Drew Sarich, Thomas Borchert and Katharine Mehrling were there.

Christian Struppeck introduced and interviewed them, as well as musical director Koen Schoots. They all had to say interesting things about their leading parts, Andrew Lloyd Webber and about Vienna.

Director and Choreographer Vincent Paterson, who also directed the movie with Madonna, sent a video which we all watched together:

After the interviews some group photos were taken and more, more and more interviews were given. Fortunately I caught Drew between two interviews to get at least two photos of him alone, so here’s the one I really like a lot:

Thomas was very busy as well, nevertheless I got two more photos of him too, though I like this one better – very serious, but also works with his military character in the upcoming show.

Unfortunately it wasn’t possible for me to wait any longer for “Evita” Katharine Mehrling, as she has been kidnapped by some other photographers and not been brought back during the time I could spend there… well,  probably there will be more possibilities for photos at the press rehearsal, in case I can be there – I’m already looking forward! 🙂 And I’m also looking forward to see on stage again: Nina Weiß, Ariane Swoboda, Susanne ten Harmsen and Ronnie Wagner – which I already photographed (months/years ago); and also Jeannine Wacker, who played in one of my favorite shows: “Spring Awakening”. Another show I miss a lot and hope it will return one day… But first have a look at the slideshow below! 😉

Sister Act, Vienna (VBW) – press preview

September 4, 2011

Press preview for the musical “Sister Act” at the Ronacher! The cast played four scenes/songs of the show:

“Fabelhaft, Baby”, “Ich mach sie kalt”, “Singt hinauf zum Himmel”, “Sonntagmorgenfieber”. There was already a cast-change: Brigitte Neumeister was replaced by Dagmar Hellberg, she is playing “Mutter Oberin” now – I really like Dagmar Hellberg, when I first heard her singing on the “Freudiana”-CD and later then during my diploma project at the “Jekyll & Hyde”-rehearsals. Great voice, though she hasn’t much to sing in this show… 😦

I’m sure Ana Milva Gomes will be a phantastic “Dolores”, what a wonderful voice!! Drew Sarich is well known here anyway, so I guess I don’t have to say a lot about his performance yesterday! Though I saw movements and faces I haven’t seen in combination with Drew before. 🙂 Very funny, I’m sure he will be a gangster you just have to like! His new beard he got for the show is, well, funny but looks surprisingly good, I have to admit. 🙂 I don’t know why, but I like it. 🙂

Kathy Tanner as “Mary Lazarus” will be very amusing to watch too, Barbara Obermeier is playing “Mary Roberts”, Sonja Atlas “Mary Patrick” , Martin Berger “Joey”, Arcangelo Vigneri “Erkan”, Bernhard Viktorin “TJ”, Michael Schönborn “Monsignore O’Hara”, and Thada Suanduanchai “Eddie Fritzinger” – what a name! 🙂 Poor guy will be misspelled very often, I guess, but he seems to be a very cute Eddie, assuming from taking photos after the show at the foyer.

The stage design and light is AMAZING, a pleasure to look at. Beautiful colors, wonderful light effects. I already watched the show in Hamburg this year (another blogpost with a “behind the scenes”-shooting with Hamburg’s 2nd cast of “Mary Patrick”, Yvonne Köstler will follow soon), and the stage and the costumes were really impressive, I think it’s the same here.

After the scenes were shown, we got the chance to take group photos with the actors or while they were being interviewed. I’m very happy Drew was so nice to come with me and let me take some photos near the window where the light and the background was better. Have a look at the photos of “Drew and the Lolly” below in the slideshow. 🙂

Premiere will be on September 15th, Ronacher, Seilerstätte 9, 1010 Wien, here’s also the link to the official website of the VBW where you can buy tickets and get some information about the show.

And here’s the link to the press conference of “Sister Act” with Whoopi Goldberg!

Martin Bruny is also going to write about “Sister Act” at kultur-channel, go there too!

The cast presented some songs of the show, after that was time for interviews where I also took some photos, but the light was horrible with looots of contrast, I’m not very happy with that at all, but here are some of them. You can read more about the press conference at

Today I was really nervous! Also couldn’t sleep well because of today’s exciting job – something that I always wanted to do:
Taking photos officially for “Vereinigte Bühnen Wien” – photographing the dress rehearsal of “Jesus Christ Superstar”, as I also already shot the PR-photo for the show, Drew  Sarich as “Jesus”. See those photos in my blog-post GOOD MEN – Jesus Christ Superstar, Drew Sarich and Rasmus Borkowski 🙂
If you are in Vienna, you just HAVE TO watch the Show, it’s great!

Here’s the official Website where you also can buy tickets:

Drew Sarich is playing “Jesus” – perfect, this really rocks!!! 🙂

Here’s the cast-list:

M. Magdalena: Caroline Vasicek
Judas: Mischa Mang
Simon/Annas: Rob Fowler
Pilatus: Alexander di Capri
Petrus: Norbert Kohler
Herodes: James Sbano
Kaiphas: Dennis Kozeluh

It was also nice to meet some other people I knew in the theatre! Rasmus Borkowski was there, Andreas Wanasek, Sarah Laminger, Kathi Strohmayer, Patrick Schenk, Nicola Gravante, Jerôme Knols,…and I’m sure there were many more, but I was too busy with shooting. 🙂 Job comes first of course!

GOOD MEN – Jesus Christ Superstar, Drew Sarich and Rasmus Borkowski :-)

February 25, 2011

Finally I got the chance to do a job for a company I always wanted to work with: Vereinigte Bühnen Wien! I like photography, but I love musicals. 🙂 Since I first saw “Elisabeth” in 1993 with Pia Douwes and Uwe Kröger I loooove it! And since then I wanted to have a job that has to do with musicals, singing, acting, dancing, theatre, costumes, light, great make-up, music,… and, well, taking photos of those gifted people was somehow close to what I wanted, though my first choice would have been dresser in a musical. 🙂 Tried this years later, and it was great! Funny job! Would do it again.

Anyway, now I’m a photographer and got another cool job that had to do with musical: Taking photos of Drew Sarich for promoting “Jesus Christ Superstar” (Ronacher, April 21st -24th, more information HERE). I’m so so happy I could do my first job for VBW with someone I already knew – I already took photos of Drew for the show “IZ by oliver emanuel” some years ago – he, Dave Moskin and Kyrre Kvam were playing. So I was nervous about shooting such an important job, but it was comforting that Drew was there! I also have to say that my assistant Eva (thanks again!) was very patient holding the boom-lightstand for Drew’s safety, and the creative support of Christina, Monika and of course Drew’s cooperation was really helpful. Thanks to everyone! We worked fast and I think we got some nice results – you can see some of the photos below!

Thanks also to Denise Jastraunig for being test-model for my ideas! Here’s the link to her website – she’s a phantastic singer too:

We took two completely different versions – a rather classic photo with warm light from above and a dirty background as contrast to Drew’s white shirt. It’s hard to get charcoal in winter! baumax only offered 10-kg-bags…! So I  bought some carbon pencils at an artist’s store, made charcoal-crumbles to get my beautiful white studio wall dirty…:-) The second version was a very modern interpretation – the ringlight as Drew’s halo. And when we shot the second variation, Beyoncé’s “halo” was playing at the radio – how funny!!! Drew was sure that this is a sign! 🙂 I edited those photos in different ways, I think my favourite picture is the blue-ish one. I just totally love Drew’s expression on this one, it’s like “Me?! You want ME to die?”, which fits perfectly to the show in my opinion. Tell me which one you think is the best!

And here are also some photos of another gorgeous man: Rasmus Borkowski! Taking photos of him was a lot of fun, actually his was one of my top-3 of my funniest photoshootings! 🙂 As I haven’t published so many photos, especially many of last year, I’ll try to catch up on this. So here are some of the pictures I took of Rasmus!
