How to portray a King

March 11, 2018

…because “How to shoot a King” sounded a little bit too violent. 😉

Well, all you need is a winter with some snow, a beautiful forest and a model who is willing to get up too early, to freeze, get wet feet and able to make his way through bushes of thorns with his sword! At least this is what I imagined for a shoot like this. Of course you also need to deal with some loss which will probably come along with such adventurous plans – equipment falling into the snow, things covered in dirt and even can’t be found ever again (by me). Despite all those difficulties the pictures were definitely worth all the effort and losses. And Stefan did a very good job there despite the bad conditions, we both are very excited about the outcome of that shoot!

Stefan and I took photos together already several times, he also was the male model for my series “Papergirl & Plasticboy” that I took for an exhibition, so I knew this would work out just as fine! After Stefan has sent me his suggestions for what to wear I tried to match the props we would need for a king or warrior in the woods, with a touch of fashion. So I just bought a sword and started various attempts of making a crown that would have more of a fashion or even avantgarde look and would match Stefan’s outfit. Then we added some black shag as a royal scarf – and there was the king himself! 😀

If you are curious about the light setup – I used two off-camera flashes, one of them with an umbrella, the other one from behind without any light diffusion. Here’s a funny behind-the-scenes-shot, and another photo without any added lights in comparison, which is just boring in my opinion. That’s what it looked like for the jogger that came around during the shoot, so – nothing special, just a man with a sword out in the woods…

After our feet were wet enough Stefan changed into a hoodie and we took some photos which are more of a fashion style than portrait or commercial like the ones before, but I love these so much too, especially Stefan’s posing is awesome – of course, as he has been working as a fashion (and commercial) model a lot, so working with an experienced model is invaluable!

Roman Straka

February 7, 2018

In 2009 I have watched “Krawutzi Kaputzi” here in Vienna, a very funny show, similar to the musical “Avenue Q”, where the singers are puppeteers on the stage at the same time – everyone there did an awesome job!  One of the singers was Roman Straka, playing “Fips” and now, 8 years later, I had the pleasure to take portraits for him! On the other hand, Roman was also part of the cast of another “Simpl”-show (both directed by Werner Sobotka): “Und tschĂŒĂŸ – das war der ORF” where I was shooting the official pictures for the programme.

Besides being an actor, Roman is teaching elocution at the PCA, as he always has loved to practice speaking to become a radio presenter, voice-over or dubbing artist since he was a child! If you want to see him on stage – he will be playing in Gmunden in March and April. On March 22nd will be the Premiere of the musical “Jane Eyre”, where Roman plays alongside Elisabeth Sikora, Yngve Gasoy-Romdal, Carin Filipčić and Leah Delos Santos, directed by Markus Olzinger. And I am already looking forward to watch the show, as I have also loved “BlutsbrĂŒder” some years ago! If you want to know more about “Musical FrĂŒhling Gmunden”, please click HERE, I can absolutely recommend it.

What I love about especially photographing actors is the complete change of a character with just a different look on their face, even with only slightly different styling. Of course lighting and color are helping too, but it is always astounding to be there with a suddenly different person! That’s always the most exciting part for me – how different someone can look during the time of shooting. I’ll show you what I’m talking about. 😉 From nice and sweet to creepy can happen in minutes!

Of course this is exactly what actors need for castings, auditions and their agents – being able to show what kind of characters they are able to play. From funny guy to creepy neighbor to loving family father.

I hope Roman will get awesome jobs through the pictures we took. Here’s the slideshow with more of his photos!

Peter Knauder, IV

October 26, 2017

I already know Peter since 2011, so this September we took photos for the already fourth time – and this shooting should mean a lot more to me later than I expected on that day. A big thank you to Peter again for that afternoon – you’re awesome!

If you want to look at the photos we took in 2011 too, please click on this link and scroll down there.

Peter was very excited about the shoot and got tons of ideas for what to wear – and I’m always astounded by the creativity of his wardrobe choices, and they sometimes also make me smile. 🙂 So it’s always a pleasure working with him. Actually it’s more like playing and trying things, and that’s what I especially love about photography.

Peter also is very committed to fitness training, so of course we tried to make his already perfect body look best. Lots of skin and muscles this time and more of a fashion-style than in the portrait work I usually do, so I hope you enjoy the photos too!

Iris Nussbaum

October 23, 2016

Last week I had the pleasure getting to know actress Iris Nussbaum, a lovely young, beautiful girl who has finished studying at the Schauspielschule Krauss this year, so I enjoyed taking her portraits a lot and I hope they will help her finding great jobs on TV or in movies!

During a shoot there’s always that one special moment where everything turns out to be perfect, and I just love these exciting minutes! In this case:

But of course there are many pictures I like a lot, so just enjoy the slideshow below. 😉

Musicalfest 2016

September 24, 2016

I decided to make a short blogpost for all the people who could not be at the Raimundtheater in Vienna today, and also for those who want to look at some pictures of today’s “MUSICALFEST”. 😉

Like in previous years there has been a built a big stage on the street right next to the Raimundtheater and the show programme was shown three times. This year’s singers were Ana Milva Gomes, Marjan Shaki, Drew Sarich and Oedo Kuipers.

The Songs:
“Einladung zum Ball” (Tanz der Vampire) – Drew Sarich,  “Wenn ich tanzen will” (Elisabeth) – Ana and Oedo, “Gold von den Sternen” (Mozart) – Ana, “Wie wird man seinen Schatten los” (Mozart) – Oedo, “High flying adored” (Evita) – Marjan and Drew, “Don’t cry for me, Argentinia” (Evita) – Marjan.

Of course there was also a lot to see inside the theatre – three songs of the new musical “Schikaneder” have been performed by the original cast – Premiere will be next Friday, Sept. 30th at the Raimundtheater. Tickets are available here. As I’m going to watch the full show next week, I decided I’d better wait until then. 😉

If you want to look at more photos or have some prints, please go to my website => shop – there you can find more. And here’s also the usual slide show of some of the available photos!

Richard Panzenböck

September 10, 2016

Richard and I have definitely taken a lot of photos together so far – and I enjoyed every single time, as he is one of the most relaxed and funniest people I know! 🙂

I have no idea how he manages all the different things/jobs he’s doing all the time: Acting, costume designing – and especially being a very busy, successful puppeteer with his own show “Paperman” after winning the 2nd prize in RTL’s “Die Puppenstars”.

Richard is a very good looking “vampire” (Martina Bruckner-Nöhrer: Thanks for the phantastic make-up!) and I would have loved to watch a movie like “Twilight” with him even more. 🙂

Some years ago Richard helped me with one of my projects called “Papergirl & Plasticboy” (Everything except my two models was either plastic or paper! Hair & Make-up again by Martina Bruckner-Nöhrer) during a workshop about fashion photography and an exhibition – the clothes  Birgit and Stefan are wearing are all made out of paper and plastic, designed by Richard – I think he did an awesome job here as well, so thanks again! 🙂 Here’s the last (wedding) photo of this series:

This summer we took some portraits outdoor in a rather quick shooting, here’s one of my favourites of that day, more in the slideshow below!

Linda Fischer

September 7, 2016

In August I had the pleasure to get to know Linda Fischer, a very nice, natural girl with supercool blue eyes! At the moment she’s a student at the “Musik und Kunst PrivatuniversitĂ€t” here in Vienna, starting her last year very soon. 🙂

Although it should have been raining at least part of the shooting-day we were very lucky with the weather, so we could walk around, talk and take some pictures. On our way we found an awesome red wall, and as Linda had a perfectly matching lipstick with her, it worked out so well!

I hope my photos will help Linda to get great jobs and I’m looking forward to see her on stage very soon.

Here’s the slideshow!
